NYC schools are getting rid of Snapple!
October 2nd, 2009 by Nate

The New York City Department of Education deserves pats on the back and high fives because they just finalized a deal to take Snapple vending machines out of schools and replace them with vending machines selling healthy food and drinks!  It was a tough decision, because the deal they had with Snapple brought in $7 million more than the new deal, but the DOE has gone ahead with the plan anyway because of serious concerns about obesity among NYC kids.

Over here at What’s On Your Plate? we want to thank everyone who talked to teachers and principles, wrote letters to DOE officials, or brought the issue of food reform up in New York City schools in any way at all, this happened because you guys made it happen!!  This is a great step in the right direction and exactly the kind of change we want to see in our schools.
